Following on from an extremely successful run in London's West End, Legally Blonde – The Musical, burst on to the Birmingham stage last night in an explosion of everything pink.
Based on the Hollywood blockbuster and the novel of the same name, Legally Blonde follows heart-broken Elle Woods who, after being dumped by her high school boyfriend Warner, makes it her mission to follow him to Harvard law school and win him back.
As cheesy and unbelievable as the film itself (as a law intern Elle takes on a murder trial armed only with her knowledge of hair products), Legally Blonde – The Musical was pure escapism at its best performed by an outstanding cast who looked like they were enjoying every second of it.
Actress Faye Brookes is simply charming as the not-so-shallow-after-all leading lady Elle and her dog Bruiser had the audience in fits of cooing and 'ahs'. Gal-pal Paulette, played by Claire Sweeney, brought a charming comic edge to the stage and stand-out songs included the catchy chorus of Omigod You Guys and Blood In The Water while songs Bend And Snap and There! Right There! are laugh out loud funny.
Apparently Bend and Snap is a tried and tested method to snare any (straight) man and it seemed to work a treat last night.
So, I don't know about you but I'm off to bleach my hair and perfect the Bend and Snap.
You can catch Legally Blonde - The Musical at Birmingham's New Alexandra Theatre until October 15.
