This year's pantomime at Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre raked in more than £1 million during its six-week run, delighted bosses revealed today.

Almost 60,000 people watched Jack and The Beanstalk.

Bosses say it was the third year running that the annual pantomime has taken a seven-figure sum at the box office of the Lichfield Street venue.

Chief executive Peter Cutchie said: "More than 59,000 people have seen the show, and attendance is slightly up on last year.

"It is wonderful so many people have been drawn into the city during this festive period both supporting the theatre and helping boost the local economy.

"Competitively priced family tickets, available both before and after Christmas, were extremely popular with patrons and there was a much increased attendance by school parties across a whole range of performances.

"Jack and The Beanstalk has received fantastic press and audience feedback during its six-week run."

The show stars Sherrie Hewson, Keith Harris and Orville and Ken Morley.

Tickets are on sale for this year's pantomime Sleeping Beauty, which will star current Dancing On Ice contestant Joe Pasquale.
