Sneak peek inside Birmingham’s Blacklock chophouse restaurant ahead of opening

Following a record-breaking sell out soft launch, bookings are live for Blacklock Birmingham, with exclusive new menu items revealed as we get a sneak peek inside

Its soft launch deals sold out within minutes - and now Birmingham’s exciting new Blacklock chophouse has launched its live bookings.

The stylish restaurant is almost ready to open its doors to food fans in the West Midlands offering incredible dishes inspired by the Great British chophouse tradition.

In case you don’t know, chophouses originated during the 18th century - serving hearty dinners for working class men and merchants, often specialising in grilled meats like chops and steaks.

And Blacklock is serving up a brilliant modern take on that tradition offering a menu that really is value for money.

Ahead of its official opening in Birmingham on Monday, April 20, we got a sneak peek inside the hotly anticipated new opening from the brand which started out in a former brothel in London and now has a venue in a former vicarage in Birmingham!

Overlooking Cathedral Square, the new restaurant in St Philip’s House oozes heritage charm with bottle green interiors complementing the beautifully historic building which has been thoughtfully brought back to life.

It’s on the opposite side of Pigeon Park to the Old Joint Stock pub.

Mahogany wood finishes add to the traditionally British experience which complements Blacklock’s love of restoring historic buildings.

All the celebrated Blacklock dishes, which have won over meat fans at its five London venues and one in Manchester are available - with some exciting new additions, just for Brum.

Blacklock Birmingham opens on Monday, April 20 with bookings now live here.

What are the Blacklock signature dishes?

By using the whole animal to make something of everything Blacklock champions great steak at incredible value for money.

Its signature dishes include the All In sharing feast of beef, pork and lamb chops served resting atop charred flatbreads which soak up the juices, creating an unbelievably soft, savoury, delicious sensation.

It really is a meat feast like no other. It is served with pre-chop bites - which are Black lock potted meats and kimchi, egg and anchovy and cheese and pickle - and a choice of side dish which include beef dripping chips, chop house salad, 10 hour ash roasted sweet potato and broccoli and walnut salad - all for £28 per person.

There’s a waiting list for their award-winning Sunday Roast with bottomless Blacklock gravy in London - which comes with a pledge that it’s ‘almost as good as mum’s - priced from £24.

This is served with Yorkshire pudding, duck fat-roast potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables.

Another Blacklock favourite is Granny’s White Chocolate Cheesecake, served tableside with its signature “say when” approach to portion size.

So what are the new additions for Birmingham?

For the first time, Blacklock will serve fish alongside its signature chops and steaks in Birmingham.

Cornish dayboat monkfish, cooked over coals on the bone to intensify its rich, meaty flavour, is served with a velvety cream and mustard sauce and finished with a garlic crumb.

This is nourishing comfort food at its best, with the crunch of garlic and soft fish bringing mouthfuls of joy.

Also joining its list of steaks in Birmingham is Bavette, priced keenly at £15 alongside the Blacklock Fillet at £24.

Often referred to as the ‘butcher’s cut’, Bavette is known for its deep, rich flavour and, like all Blacklock beef, is dry-aged for up to 55 days.

A selection of seasonal sides completes the new additions, including a new Chop House Salad, Blacklock’s take on a decadent Waldorf combines chicory, pear, Stilton and candied pecans, designed to stand up alongside the restaurant’s signature chops.

Beers, wine on tap and cocktails at Blacklock

Hospitality and fun times really do flow endlessly at Blacklock. I’m not usually a cocktail fan, but there really are some not to be missed treats here including a Spring Negroni served with Somerset Cider Brandy, Savoia Rosso Amaro Dolce, Primitivo red wine, pear, cinnamon & ginger ale. Usual Suspects is also highly recommended - with Jalapeño Tequila, Aperol, grapefruit, Prosecco.

Wine is served from a tap with prices from £5.50 and there are some great Blacklock brews on tap, costing from £4.65.

And especially for Birmingham, Blacklock has introduced an exciting new addition to its drinks lineup: the Ruby Mild (4.3%).

The Ruby Mild will roll out across all Blacklock locations as well as Birmingham.

Additionally, beers from Birmingham Brewing Company and Glasshouse will be available at Blacklock Birmingham from day one.

‘We can’t wait to become part of this great city’

Founder Gordon Ker said: “We’ve been longing to open in Birmingham for a while, so to be on the cusp of opening feels very special. Our building is beautiful and, while the paint is still drying, it already feels like home.

“There’ll be lots that feel familiar to those who know us from London or Manchester, but we also wanted to do something very special for Birmingham, with a few new dishes, including fish for the first time.

“As we dress the cocktail trolley and put the final touches in place, we can't wait to become part of this great city.“

Blacklock Birmingham opens on Monday 20th April, with bookings now live here.
