A pub is opening in a care home in Sedgley - here's how it's planned to beneift residents, staff and the local community
A care home in Sedgley is getting its own pub which promises a host of benefits for residents, staff and the local community
A new pub set inside a Sedgley care home is set to provide residents with a comfortable space to relax, connect, and enjoy a touch of timeless charm.
Staff at Sedgley Court Care Home have been working to get the Sedgley Arms ready for residents and the local community to use, with an official launch date of Friday, November 28.
Front of house manager Stacey Morrall said the idea for the pub had come from having created some other communal areas inside the home and wanting to provide a safe and comfortable space.
She said: "The idea came from the fact that we are a lifestyle home and everything we do is about creating a community inside for our residents and we've already got a cinema and a salon on site.
"It's just about creating that community inside and also, because it's in a dementia community, it's an open and safe space in the day and we've bought plastic wine bottles so that residents can interact, but it can be turned into a full pub in the evening for events.
"We'll have different events in there, such as pie and pint night and quiz night and if residents have a special occasion, their relatives can come in to celebrate, plus we'll open it up to the community for things like pie and pint night."
Ms Morrall said the pub would have a range of drinks familiar to residents, including old bottles of Babycham that she said she had found at home, to help them resonate with the past and said it was all a way for residents to be with friends and enjoy themselves.

She said: "It's about the social aspect and encouraging the residents to enjoy something they used to enjoy as they might not have been able to go to the pub for a long time, so it's about bringing back the memories.
"We are opening on the morning of November 28 as we have an event that morning and will have more community footfall in the home, but we'll also open up for set dates for events and, during the day, it's going to be an open, interactive space for all the residents to engage with.
"It'll be open between 12pm and 3pm, then have events in the afternoon and from five until eight in the evening and I think it'll be a great hit as it's opposite the brickworks and the view is really lovely."
