Ched Evans scored twice in a 4-0 Carabao Cup win.

Matt Lawlor hailed his Fleetwood side after they booked their spot in the third round of the Carabao Cup with a 4-0 demolition of Shrewsbury.

Veteran Ched Evans’ brace was sandwiched between Shrews’ skipper Will Boyle’s own goal and Will Davies’ first goal for the Cod Army at Highbury.

And Lawlor praised: “It was a brilliant team performance. I’m pleased with every single one of them.

“I’m running out of things to say about Ched Evans. He was incredible again tonight and deserved his two goals.

“I’m just really proud of the whole group. We were at it from the start and stuck to the job at hand.

“We were determined to win and get through and it would be nice to get a big tie off the back of that.”

Gavin Cowan was left questioning his side’s professionalism after they were put to the sword.

Cowan, whose side also sit at the bottom of the Football League, said: “Things like desire, determination weren’t there tonight.

“The first 15 minutes we just weren’t at the races. It was a lack of professionalism to go 1-0 down. Again there was too much ego.

“We had two chances that we have to score, but we didn’t do that and it dissolved us. We lacked that belief and quality.

“You can see the group need help in terms of quality. You just have to look at their two centre-forwards and our two centre-forwards, it was chalk and cheese.”
