Joseph netted his first Boro goal in the 3-1 win.

Kim Hellberg was delighted to see Kyle Joseph join Will Lankshear on the scoring trail as his Middlesbrough side swept past Doncaster in the Carabao Cup.

Joseph netted his first Boro goal in the 3-1 win with Lankshear and Jeremy Sarmiento also scoring before Isaac Hutchinson added an injury-time consolation for Rovers.

Hellberg said: “For Kyle, he’s coming back from the injury he had in the play-offs and you can see the pace he has, the running, the ability. He’s just going to get better.

“As a striker, it’s always important to get that goal. I’m very happy for him. I’m very happy for Will to keep scoring like I’m happy for a lot of the players who were good out there.

“We wanted to play forward more and have the free man. I’m disappointed we didn’t get the clean sheet but their best chances came at 3-0.”

Doncaster manager Grant McCann was enthused by the attacking threat shown by his side on the night.

“We’re looking more threatening,” McCann said. “We looked really threatening particularly on the break and transitions against a really good team.

“I think we’ll just get stronger and stronger as the season goes on.

“I think the boys will take a lot of confidence from tonight. It’s the sort of freedom that we want to see from them on a regular basis and I think we’ll get that.

“I’m delighted for Isaac Hutchinson to get the goal and he’s just going to get better and better as the season comes.”
