Ronan Hale had put the Gills ahead from the spot.

Half-time substitute Keyrol Figueroa rescued a point for Port Vale as they came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Gillingham at Priestfield.

Figueroa prodded home from close range after the Gills failed to clear a ball into the box, cancelling out Ronan Hale’s first-half opener from the penalty spot.

In a quiet first half, the best of the chances fell to Tom Eaves, who headed a Nick Freeman cross wide of the right hand post for the hosts.

Marko Marosi then produced a brilliant save to prevent the Gills from going in front via Andy Smith’s header after 35 minutes.

However, he was beaten on 42 minutes when a penalty was awarded for a foul on Ethan Coleman by George Hall, with Hale duly firing home from 12 yards.

Gareth Ainsworth’s men should have added a second shortly after the interval, but Eaves was unable to make the most of Hale’s deflected shot, before Armani Little fired over.

Vale drew level in the 66th minute when the home defence were unable to clear a ball into their box, and Figueroa was well-placed to find the net.

Kyle Dempsey, another half-time sub, went close to netting the winner for Vale, but his free-kick was well saved by Ollie Wright.
