Young Boys hit with Uefa fan ban after crowd trouble at Aston Villa
Young Boys supporters have been banned from their next Europa League away match following the violence which took place during last week’s tie at Villa.
Visiting fans threw plastic cups at Villa’s players before fighting with police and hurling seats in the first half of the match on November 27.
Two supporters were arrested on the night, with a further six detained the following day at Birmingham Airport.
One fan was subsequently jailed for two months for assaulting a police officer, with a further three charged with “using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence”.
The Swiss club have now been banned from selling tickets to supporters for their next away match in the competition, due to take place in Stuttgart next month.
They have also been fined nearly £43,700 and ordered to pay compensation to Villa for damage caused to the stadium.
Trouble first flared after Donyell Malen had put Villa ahead in the 27th minute, with the Netherlands international hit on the head by a plastic cup thrown from the away section in the Doug Ellis Stand.
The situation then intensified when Malen scored again in the 42nd minute, as away fans fought with police, forcing the referee to stop the match for around five minutes before things were brought under control.
Villa went on to win the match 2-1.
