The club have a new centre-back as their priority position to strengthen in January and have a strong interest in Danso, a player they have followed for some time.

It is understood Wolves are ready to make a move for Danso, who could be available from French club Lens on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Wolves could swoop for the 26-year-old in the coming days, with the transfer window opening on Wednesday, amid the club's shortage of defenders.

Toti Gomes has now been ruled out for three to four weeks with a hamstring injury, leaving Santi Bueno and Craig Dawson as the only fit senior centre-backs at the club, following Yerson Mosquera's season-ending knee injury.

Youngsters Bastien Meupiyou and Alfie Pond were the other options on the bench yesterday as Wolves drew with Spurs, and new boss Vitor Pereira has called for a swift centre-back addition once the window opens.

Danso is now one of Wolves' top targets for that position, as they look to strengthen the squad for their ongoing relegation battle.

The Austrian defender had a brief loan spell at Southampton in 2019/20, but only made 10 appearances, with six coming in the Premier League.

He reportedly missed out on a £21million move to Italian side Roma in the summer after his medical unearthed a minor heart problem, which saw the transfer scrapped.

He then, reportedly, underwent surgery to correct the issue as he missed two months of football for Lens, before returning in October.

In total, he has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the French side this season.
