Wolves chief explains reason for left-back's deadline day exit
The defender has moved to the Bundesliga.
Wolves technical director Matt Jackson says David Moller Wolfe’s deadline day loan exit to Hamburg was the best move for all parties.
The Norway international left-back has joined the Bundesliga club in a deal which includes a £12.5million option to buy. Wolves will also receive a £500,000 loan fee.
Moller Wolfe, who joined from AZ Alkmaar last summer, had found himself behind Hugo Bueno in the pecking order so far this term.
Wolves are expected to bring in a replacement before the 11pm transfer deadline.
Explaining the decision to let him leave, Jackson said: “It was a difficult balance to strike. David’s come back from a successful World Cup and Cesar has assessed the squad, and we’ve got two extremely good left backs.
“We have to get them both gametime and protect the value in them, and Wolfe going to play in the Bundesliga was the best for all parties.
“Hugo’s been excellent and is a homegrown player, which we’ve stressed many times is important. He’s started the season very well and we have to make decisions on the squad management.
“Every player wants to play, and Wolfie is definitely that type, and I respect him for that. He wants to be out there all of the time and is going to a massive club in Hamburg, where I’m sure he’ll do well. He’ll have our full support, as all our loan players always do.”
