'Wish there was more time' - Wolves scorer opens up on frustration with resurgence likely to fall short
Adam Armstrong has urged Wolves to keep fighting to the end after admitting frustration there is not more time left for them to escape the drop.
Monday’s stirring 2-2 draw at Brentford extended their unbeaten Premier League run to three matches but they still sit 12 points from safety with just seven matches to play.
January signing Armstrong, who netted his first goal for the club at the Gtech Stadium, is experiencing conflicting emotions with his return to the top flight almost certain to be a short one.
He said: “I have been buzzing. It is hard for us because being back in the Premier League, it is where everyone wants to play.
“I am coming up to my 100th game in the league and it will be a joy to get that.
“I just wish there was more of the season to go. From my own point of view, I just have to keep working hard and keep on going.”
Wolves looked destined for defeat in west London when Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago fired the home side into a two-goal lead.
But Armstrong struck on the stroke of half-time and then hit the post before Tolu Arokodare levelled the scores. Arokodare also sent a header against the bar as Wolves came within a whisker of claiming a third straight league win, following memorable home victories over Villa and Liverpool.
Wolves, still searching for a first away league win of the season, have lost just two of their last eight games in all competitions.
Armstrong said: “Since I have come in, it hasn’t been a team which has been 20th in the league.
“It is crazy in my eyes. Seeing it every day, since I have come in, the performances on the pitch you are thinking, how are we in this position?
“But we just have to take every game as it comes and see where it gets us.
“We just have to keep chasing teams down. Everyone knows where we are. But if we can keep putting in performances like Monday’s second half from the start we can only go one way.”
