West Brom v Coventry preview: Boss wants side to clean up details

Carlos Corberan has urged his Albion players to clean up their finishing in the box to take advantage of spells on top.

The Baggies were much-improved against league leaders Sheffield United on Sunday and aim to replicate or improve on those levels against Coventry at The Hawthorns tonight.

But despite a dominant first 30 minutes against the Blades, in which Corberan's men deserved their 1-0 lead, the Yorkshiremen struck back with two goals in as many minutes to punish some Albion defensive sloppiness.

Corberan's side responded to claim their point in the 2-2 draw and the head coach's message to his squad has now been that Albion must take advantage of dangerous attacks they create, rather than letting opponents off the hook. Prior to Torbjorn Heggem's opener on Sunday, the hosts tested United's backline with a number of wicked deliveries, but could not find the finish.

Albion's head coach said ahead of the visit of Frank Lampard's Sky Blues:  "Yes, that is the football we want to do (replicate the start against the Blades). We want to attack and not concede a chance. After the game we have a document where we look at our chances and it is clear in the first 30 minutes we didn't concede and created more.

"What I want is to create more dangerous chances that are closer to the goal, that would be even better. It is important to manage the details that allow you to convert a chance to a goal. To score a goal there are things we can do better.

"We have talked to the players, we were more times in the attacking box than them, but we could only score two. They arrived less times here (our box) but score two. In general in the middle of the pitch we were better.

"It was important to see why we couldn't score more and why we conceded from few chances. It means we can do better, we can improve the quality in our cross, we can increase players that arrive in the box, but not only to arrive, to arrive in the right moment, to try to win the position against the opponent controlling you."

Albion were the better side in the final 20 minutes last time out following Tom Fellows' equaliser and wasted a couple of chances, with a Darnell Furlong header and Mikey Johnston strike, as well as a Karlan Grant cross nobody could reach.

Lampard, appointed at the CBS Arena at the end of last month, opened up with the Sky Blues with a home 2-2 draw against Cardiff, before securing an impressive 1-0 victory at Millwall at the weekend.

Corberan could have attacker Grady Diangana back in contention for the clash, should the 26-year-old come through training unscathed yesterday following a calf injury.

The head coach said the club would assess a series of players who have recently been out with injuries at the mid-point of a busy, three-game week. Corberan felt Johnston had his best display if the season against the Blades but detailed how the winger struggled to cope physically the last time the Baggies had a three-game week.
