West Brom complete £1m deadline day defender deal

The right-back has become the club’s 10th signing of the summer.

Albion have completed the deadline day signing of Brayann Pereira from NEC Nijmegen for a fee of around £1million.

The 23-year-old right-back, who has signed a four-year contract, is likely to be the Baggies’ final signing of the transfer window.

Boss James Morrison would like to add a striker before the 11pm deadline but a deal is now considered remote.

Pereira, who began his career with Lens and also played for Auxerre, is a former France youth international who has made 58 appearances in the Dutch top flight since joining NEC two years ago.

He will provide cover and competition for another of the Baggies’ summer signings, Nolan Galves.

Morrison remained coy when discussing other possible targets on Tuesday morning but a striker is thought to now be top of the agenda.

The boss claimed his primary focus remains on preparing the team for Wednesday’s Championship visit of Charlton.

Asked about the possibility of more signings, he replied: “We’re hopeful. We have been working hard all summer and will continue to do that. So fingers crossed.

“I am just focusing on the team. I am happy. I know where we are as a club and I know what we are trying to do.

“We have to do things a little bit differently to so-called bigger teams in the division. But I am pleased with the recruitment we have done this window.”
