"We're going to fight" - Wolves leader on beating Derby's record and memorable Molineux win
Toti Gomes is pleased Wolves will not be burdened with the 'scar' of being the Premier League's worst ever side after their win over Villa.
A memorable Molineux win took Wolves to 13 points, surpassing Derby's record low of 11 from 2007/08, as they turned on the style in the West Midlands derby.
Although Wolves are destined to be relegated this season, Toti's relief was evident as he spoke about the importance of avoiding that unwanted record.
"We don't want to have the scar of being one of the worst teams ever, in terms of points in the Premier League," Toti said.
"We don't want that and in the game against Villa, in a derby, we knew that we had to go with everything.
"It's been mentioned and even from the previous game that we had at Villa Park, we knew that we played very well, but we couldn't leave there with the points.
"It was a bit frustrating, but we had to build from that game and see what we did wrong and not make the same mistakes.
"That's what we did and we got the win. The performance in the second half was important.
"We knew that a derby game is always a tough game and it means a lot for both teams and for all the players.
"We knew that we had to come with everything to try to win this game and that's what we did.
"It's been an emotional season, it's been a rollercoaster, a lot of things happening to us since the first game. We missed a lot of players, but we need to stick with whoever is here and keep fighting.
"We cannot keep saying and blaming because we don't have players here and there, we just need to keep fighting and that's it."
Wolves played with an impressive energy and commitment as goals from Joao Gomes and Rodrigo Gomes gave the suffering supporters something to get behind.
Toti is adamant that the squad will push until the last game of the season to give the fans more reasons to be happy.
"The moment is not the best, but we are here," Toti said.
"We're going to fight until the end, that's why we're here.
"We're going to fight for this club and we still have plenty of games. We're going to try to get as many points as possible.
"It's not easy to play here.
"When we play at home, we have a different strength because of our supporters as well.
"The other teams are going to come in to try to take points from us, but we have to build from this win and from the past games, like the Arsenal game. It was a big game and a big moment for us as well.
"We need to build from these kinds of moments and keep working hard.
"We've been preparing very well and one of the reasons is because of the gaffer.
"The game plan that he's been showing us at the training ground, all the videos and everything that we've been doing.
"That's one of the reasons that after we come here, we are more comfortable, because we've been studying the opponents and because everybody's been running back.
"Sometimes when you do your homework, things are not going to happen like you wanted them to happen, so you need to adapt and make sure you fight."
