"We cannot lose hope" - Wolves striker keeping belief after latest defeat

Tolu Arokodare says Wolves 'cannot lose hope' of surviving this season after their latest Premier League defeat.

Rob Edwards' first game in charge as head coach could not stop Wolves slipping to 10 defeats in 12 matches and they are now nine points adrift of safety.

But following the loss to Crystal Palace, Arokodare insists the squad still believe they can stay up and that Edwards is determined to 'bring positive change'.

He said: “There is the belief – we cannot lose hope now. We cannot doubt ourselves.

“We have to stick together, stay focused and confident and go into every game and try to win it.

“I don’t think he would have taken the job unless he thought he could help us, want to win and change how the results have been.

“I think he took the job to bring positive change here. We all want that – me, Rob, all the players and the fans. Hopefully we will get there."

When asked if he has seen signs Wolves can turn it around, Arokodare added: “I’m not going to say it could turn but I’m saying it will get better.

“It’s a long season, 12 games have gone, we haven’t get the results we wanted but we can’t hold onto that, we have to focus on the next ones."

Wolves were improved in their competitiveness against a sluggish Palace but ultimately struggled to impose themselves or create a lot of chances.

Palace's goals were fortunate to an extent - particularly the first - but Wolves heads also dropped as the team limped to another defeat.

Arokodare said: “We’re disappointed. I thought we played well and were unlucky – as usual.

“Their second goal was beautiful but I would say they were two lucky goals for them.

“There wasn’t the same luck for us – the first goal was a deflection and they scored from a rebound, and the second came after we lost the ball in a delicate area.

“We just have to keep on what we’ve been doing for the whole game in the next matches and try to take our chances.

“It hurts because when you concede like that, it’s kills your spirit for a minute.

“In moments like that, we just have to stay focused and stay confident."

The summer signing was given a rare start and lined up alongside Jorgen Strand Larsen in a front two for the first time.

Edwards believes Arokodare can be a nuisance for defenders and the towering striker is happy to play that role if it creates chances for others.

“We did have some chances, though I didn’t have any opportunities myself," Arokodare said.

“I’m not frustrated about it. We played with two strikers and Jorgen and Marshall had chances.

“If I have to disturb other players to create chances for others, I will do that."
