Walsall vs Swindon preview: Saddlers won't dwell on Cheltenham draw says Mat Sadler

Mat Sadler insists Walsall won't be affected by conceding two late goals in their midweek draw at Cheltenham Town when they welcome Swindon Town to Bescot tomorrow.

Walsall looked destined to secure a third successive league win when they led 2-0 heading into the closing stages at Gloucestershire thanks to goals from Ellis Harrison and Albert Adomah.

However, the hosts stunned the League Two leaders with late strikes from former Saddlers striker George Miller and Jordan Thomas rescuing a dramatic late point for the Robins.

The Saddlers, who sit seven points clear at the summit, are currently enjoying a four-game unbeaten run, but have dropped points from winning positions in three of their last five matches.

Nonetheless, Sadler says he won't be dwelling on what has happened in the past and was adamant that his players won't be either.

He said: "We're just going to go after the next game. I'm not going to think about the last bits [in the draw at Cheltenham]

"There's loads of good things that you can pick out of whatever game. We're four unbeaten if you want to look at it like that.

"We're in good form, we're a good team and whatever happened previously won't have any affect on what happens on Saturday.

"I'm a big believer in that. We'll just approach it in the best way we can to win the game."

Brandon Comley has had a good week in Walsall colours after consolidating his first league start of the season in the 2-0 win at Morecambe last week with a pair of strong performances.

The 29-year-old, who was signed by Michael Flynn in 2022, is closing in on a century of appearances for the Saddlers and will reach that milestone if he features against Swindon.

And Sadler has praised the midfielder for maintaining his fitness levels despite his lack of minutes, and his performances over the past two games.

"You see when he comes into the team how important and how impressive he is," the Walsall boss noted.

"We saw that last season as well and I'm sure we'll continue to see it now as the season progresses.

"On Tuesday night especially, I thought he was incredibly calm, composed and really dominated the midfield area alongside Jamie [Jellis] and Ryan [Stirk].

"Brandon is an incredible athlete, he looks after himself very well and this season he has had to overcome a couple of injuries which have knocked him back.

"Another sign of who Brandon is, he wanted to play with that mask he had fitted (after fracturing his cheek in December) when others might not have wanted to.

"He wanted to do that to make sure that he stayed fit and was ready to take his chance when it came."

Donervon Daniels (calf) and Priestley Farquharson (thigh) will both be missing although Sadler did reveal that the pair will be targeting a comeback at the end of March.

Elsewhere, George Hall (hamstring), Jack Earing (ankle) and Josh Gordon (hamstring) remain unavailable.
