The Wolves boss has had the summer to ponder over the role of captaincy in the wake of Nelson Semedo's departure.

Toti Gomes has worn the armband the most during pre-season and is favourite to lead the team out for their Premier League opener against Manchester City at Molineux on Saturday.

But Pereira has opted for a collective approach in terms of the leadership of his squad and feels that will provide him with the support he needs both on and off the pitch.

"I will decide the four captains and I believe they can help us inside and outside the pitch," Pereira revealed.

"I will have a meeting with the captain's today to announce them, they know because I've already spoken individually to them.

"I'm talking about players with character and I believe we will create another good energy to fight and play.

"I believe in that kind of leadership, I need my players to feel like leaders.

"Sometimes it's not possible for a manager to go inside the pitch. I can give information and help them, but there will be moments that I want my captains to help me to understand the group.

"It's important that we have examples, or when we're under pressure and we need to calm down and breath."

Pereira stated that he wants three more signings before the end of the window, but was also asked about how the four new arrivals are shaping up ahead of the new season.

"They have quality. They need to come from different leagues and this league is special," he replied.

Firstly, they need to understand what we want, our ideas and the connection with the other players because football is about connections."
