Semedo will become a free agent at the end of the season and has been linked with lucrative moves to Europe, USA and Saudi Arabia.

But the Wolves head coach has revealed that he has spoken to the club and indicated his desire to keep the 31-year-old at Molineux.

"Nelson is fantastic, that's why we need to keep him," said Pereira.

"I have spoken to him and the club, but now they need to find the middle of the bridge.

"If it's my decision, I want to keep him, but the money is not my money,.

"But he (Semedo) is very important for us, not only on the pitch, but off it."

Semedo took over the Wolves captaincy when Mario Lemina was stripped of the honour after the ugly scenes following the 2-1 defeat at West Ham last December.

"He connects everyone, he thinks about the team every time," continued Pereira.

"He has tried to help me solve the problems.

"If I have some issue, he tries to help, if a teammate has some issue, he tries to help every time, he is this kind of person - and always with class"

"He helped us at the very start when we were struggling, he has united everyone.

"He's a team player in the moment that he can help a lot."
