"That has to be our cup final" - Rob Edwards calls on Wolves to fight in remaining fixtures

Rob Edwards does not want Wolves' season to fizzle out as they face eight more Premier League fixtures.

Friday's FA Cup defeat to Liverpool has narrowed Wolves' focus to just the top flight, where they have won two, drawn two and lost just won of their last five games.

That upturn in form has some daring to dream of a miraculous survival attempt and although Edwards has refused to be drawn on that, he says his players have plenty to play for and must be laser-focused on every Premier League game.

"We've now got eight games, we know how many games we've got left," he said.

"The next game against Brentford, that has to be our cup final. That's it.

"Everyone gets a few days now because it has been a really intense period and then all focus has to be on Brentford.

"We know how difficult Brentford away is, they've been brilliant this season.

"But we've got to go and find a way to win that game."

Hugo Bueno echoed his manager's thoughts and insisted that the players will fight to win every game.

He said: “We just have to win every game, we know that and it’s clear. We have eight finals left and we’re going to give 100 per cent in every single game. We don’t have any other option; we have to go and win.

“It doesn’t matter who, the situation, nothing matters, we just have to go and win it. We know that and we’re going to work for it.

“He just tries to motivate us the maximum he can. He tries to give us the game plan really easy, so we can follow it and stick to it 100 per cent. He tries to bring everyone together and have us fighting for the same objective.”

Meanwhile, Edwards admits Wolves missed Andre in their FA Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool.

The midfielder, who scored the late winner against the Reds on Tuesday night, was suspended for the cup defeat on Friday.

When asked about Andre's suspension impacting Joao Gomes' position, Edwards said: "He played there at Old Trafford when Andre didn't play, he's done it a couple of times.

"But he's probably not as suited to that as Andre.

"That's not an excuse, but I do think he's been a really good performer for us, Andre, so we're always going to miss him a little bit.

"I don't think it was a lack of effort or we were looking leggy, I think we missed Andre in midfield, he was a big miss for us.

"He's been brilliant and he was really good on Tuesday night, so I think we missed that, but the energy, I felt, was there.

"The effort was there, we were pushing still at the end and you could see that, we were still pushing and pressing.

"But Liverpool are elite athletes and they're able to bring one or two fresh bodies in. Their overall performance, they took it up a notch and it was probably one that we just couldn't quite live with."
