Steve Bull: My top 6 Wolves goals after turning 60

With 306 Wolves goals to my name, I'm fortunate to be able to recall a fair few special ones.

As I celebrate my 60th birthday this week, I've looked back on my career and after a lot of debate, I have been able to select my top six strikes.

Listed in date order, these are the Wolves goals that meant the most to me.

Scotland 0 England 2 - May 27th, 1989

I was in the under-21s and had a knock on my door after just one day.

It was Dave Sexton, who told me the gaffer wanted me to head to Scotland because someone had come down with the flu.

I hopped on a plane to Scotland and to play in that game was unbelievable.

There was about 3,000 Wolves fans there because they heard on the television the day before that I was with the squad.

To go on and score in front of them was unbelievable.

When Chris Waddle put his arm around my neck, I was nearly crying.

A few years earlier I was rock bottom of the fourth division, it was like a fairytale story to then be scoring on my England debut.

West Brom 1 Wolves 2 - October 15, 1989

We always have banter with West Brom, Blues and Villa but it's not malicious, it's just banter.

Going back there for the first time since they sold me, the only thing I could do was score against them.

The away end was packed, the ball came in and hit me on the chest and all I thought about was hitting it.

It flew into the goal and Albion fans have hated me ever since!

Norwich 2 Wolves 3 - February 17th, 1996

My wife was going into labour the day before the match and I travelled home to be there as my son Joe was born, before travelling back to Norwich for the game.

I scored two goals against Bryan Gunn, including a 25-yard chip, to top off an amazing day.

I hardly had any sleep but got through the game and to score a double was extra special.

Wolves 3 Birmingham 2 - March 23, 1996

Barry Fry was the manager for Blues that day and we managed to pull a goal back to make it 2-2 late on.

It looked like we were getting a good draw until Simon Osborn put a ball over the top and I got down to meet it to find the bottom corner. I was almost lying down when I hit it!

I legged it to the other side of the stadium to give it to the Blues fans. After the final whistle Barry Fry smacked me on the back of the head and said 'you're going to get me the sack!'

It was a good goal, one of my best ones.

Wolves 2 Bradford 1 - February 19th, 1998

My 300th goal, something I had waited almost four months for.

I had a shirt ready under my Wolves top celebrating the 300th goal and was finally able to show it off.

I thought it was never going to come, but the ball came in and I just dived at it.

I'm sure it hit me on the ear and it went in for another late winner.

Doing it in front of the home fans was brilliant.

Wolves 1 Bury 0 - September 26th, 1998

It wasn't the best goal I've scored but it was special as it was my last Wolves goal.

If I knew it would be my last goal at the time I'd have done a lap around the city centre!

I'm pleased it was at Molineux in front of the Wolves fans, as I got on the end of Kevin Muscat's cross.

306 goals is a good innings.
