Snooker legends head to Wolverhampton to remember epic final 40 years on
In May, it will mark 40 years since what is surely the greatest World Snooker Championships final of all time.
And the incredible moment when, after 17 days of intense competition, and a final frame decider which lasted 68 minutes, the fate of the title rested on whichever of Steve Davis or Dennis Taylor were able to pot the black.

The nation was gripped. And also, somewhat bleary-eyed the next day. Or actually, the same day. Because the clock stood at 12.23am when Taylor knocked the ball in before delivering an iconic celebration for what would prove the only world title of his career.
Davis was distraught. Although he had already clinched three world titles, and would go on to clinch three more, making him the unadulterated king of the baize in the 1980s, he is probably still remembered just as much for that painful defeat in the black-ball final as his extreme excellence in dominating the sport for a decade.
To mark the 40th anniversary of that incredible final at the Crucible back in 1985, the deadly duo are putting on shows across the country during this anniversary year.
And one of those, will take place right on Wolverhampton’s doorstep, at the popular sports bar the Cleveland Arms, on the evening of Thursday, June 5th.
“We are delighted to have secured a night with Steve and Dennis as part of the tour they are taking part in to mark the 40th anniversary of that incredible final,” says Cleveland Arms owner Will Adamson.
“Snooker fans, infact sporting fans in general, will never forget that final, and it was also such an incredible occasion that even those of a younger age who weren’t around 40 years ago will still enjoy getting involved and learning more about such an historic event.
“Steve and Dennis are not only legendary snooker players but also really great people with fantastic sense of humours, and we are all looking forward to another special night at the Cleveland.”
The evening will not only include Davis and Taylor offering their thoughts but also highlights from the final and their careers played on a big screen to accompany their words.
Standard tickets costing £20 are still available, and can be purchased by visiting http://clevelandarms.com/bookingoffice or calling (01902) 451021.
