Ryan Mason's final interview at West Brom: Owners, supporters, pride and lack of discipline

Ryan Mason has been sacked by West Brom, just hours after suffering a 10th consecutive defeat away from home.

The now former head coach spoke to the media following Monday night's 2-1 defeat at Leicester City - here is what he had to say...

On 'support' from the owners

"I can't speak for anyone else," said Mason. "I've felt support the whole time.

"My job is to try and get results and to continue to work and try and continue to build this club back up to where we want to be."

He continued: "Obviously our situation is tough in terms of some of the business that we've had to do and some of the business we've done, but I think the reality is we shouldn't be where we are.

"I could play this season out another 10 times and we'd have a lot more points than what we've got now from the performances that we've had.

"Sometimes football can be harsh and you can be incredibly unlucky and we're in a spell where I just don't feel like we're getting anything for what our performances deserve."

On 'amazing' supporters

He said: "They were amazing and I think everyone in the stadium today would have felt our fans were incredible.

"Listen, we've lost the game at the end and there's frustration - I accept that. That's normal. But what you probably don't mention is for the 94 minutes they were immense. They were amazing. They're supporting a team.

"I'm devastated they are going home with nothing."

On 'pride' in defeat

"Incredible," he stated. "If you've not been able to watch West Bromwich Albion this season, then I think that 95 minutes pretty much sums up our season.

"Created more chances in the opposition, more shots at goal, more penalty box entries, more this, more that, more pretty much everything.

"But for some reason we've got an incredible ability to lose games that we really shouldn't. So (it's) frustrating, angry, so many emotions. Pride as well, standing there to watch my team play like that. With personality, with quality, with everything, there's pride involved as well. Trust me, there's a lot of pride."

On 'lack of discipline'

"To concede at the end from something that is a principle-based thing and the lack of discipline in that moment has cost us," he added.

"The reality is we are where we are because of lack of discipline in different moments, whether that's a penalty against Hull. There's moments that have changed and dictated how the game and the result has gone. But that's where we are at the moment."

He added: "I think the reality is in football, if you can't win the game, then you certainly don't lose it.

"We've had a lot of games this season where the reality is we conceded two shots faced on target today and we've conceded two goals. That's been something that's continuously happened.

"I think in our last five or six games, we've probably conceded 12 shots on target and conceded 10 goals. It's not a normal situation to be in for whatever reason."
