Rob Edwards staying 'confident' despite rising fury at Wolves
Head coach has become an increasing target for criticism.
Rob Edwards remains confident he can turn Wolves’ fortunes around despite an increasingly strained relationship with supporters.
The head coach was subjected to derogatory chants from some fans in the South Bank after heading straight down the tunnel following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
Edwards, who previously promised to acknowledge supporters whatever the result, later explained he did not want to further “incite” anger around Molineux.
While accepting there is nothing he can currently say to win over fans, with the club already condemned to relegation, the under-fire boss issued another plea for perspective and promised better times ahead.
“At the moment, it’s not going to be a great feeling, is it?” he said.
“I knew that, so we've got to continue to work hard and make sure we're able to turn things around.
“I'm confident when I speak to Matt Jackson or Nathan Shi, that we're gonna be able to do that.
“So I'm alright with it. In a strange way, I'm really energised with it. I'm really looking forward to when we're able to sit here and we've won a number of games in a row and we're able to talk in a really positive manner about it. But it was always going to take a bit of time.”
Nordi Mukiele headed Sunderland into an early lead but Wolves were then handed the initiative when Dan Ballard became the second opposing player this season to be sent-off for pulling Tolu Arokodare’s hair.
Santiago Bueno headed in a second half equaliser but the home side could not find a winner.
Edwards said: "I'm not going to give any message to them (the supporters) because they won't want to hear that from me.
“I'm just going to say we're going to work really hard to try and turn things around, which has been a message for ages.
“At the moment it's just we've got to keep our heads down and work and that's all we can do.”
