Rob Edwards on selection dilemmas and Wolves' future planning

Edwards maintains that the players are on board for a positive finish to the season, but as planning for summer is under way, the head coach says he will select players with the present and not the future in mind.

"The group here now are fully committed and I still really enjoy working with this group and they are showing a real appetite to want to be here and want to try and fight," Edwards said.

"Selection will be done the way I see it at the moment. Selections will be based on who deserves to play, who's in good form and then based around the opposition, what we think is the right thing to do.

"I don't see me thinking 'just because so-and-so might not be here next year' - I don't think that will come into it this season.

"It's hard to focus too much further down the line because we're not there right now and the focus has to be on what's going on here.

"Other people can start succession planning and things like that, and then we can have discussions around it. But the here and the now is obviously working with the group that we've got.

"We've obviously had quite a lot of change in January with a number of people moving on and obviously a couple coming in.

"So that change is beginning to happen. Obviously, there will be more again in the summer, as we know.

"But the main thing at the moment has still got to be the here and the now so that we can continue to build."

Wolves also have an FA Cup campaign to focus on this season ahead of a fifth round tie with Liverpool.

Although his focus is on being competitive now, Edwards also knows he will need momentum from good results to carry him into a busy summer.

When asked what he can get out of the remaining months of the season, Edwards added: "Building for going forward.

"This is for individual players for their own careers. It's us, it's the momentum. It's the whole feel around the place.

"It's so important that we continue to remain competitive. It's really important to me that we continue to try and improve and keep getting better so we can take things into next season as well. It's really, really important that we do that."
