Rob Edwards lifts lid on Wolves rebuild and ending managerial hoodoo
Rob Edwards is confident he can be the man to halt Wolves' managerial merry-go-round ahead of a crucial summer rebuild.
Following the win over Aston Villa, Wolves extended their unbeaten run in the West Midlands derby at Molineux to five games, all of which came under five different managers since 2022.
That statistic alone highlights Wolves' plight in recent years, with relegation seemingly inevitable this season and while Edwards has called for time to make it a success, he is confident that Wolves have the infrastructure to bounce back.
"Everyone that comes and sits in this chair, we all want time and that support to try and get some consistency, but we also know for that you need the results," Edwards said.
"I think everyone understood the situation this time around, which was maybe even different to last year with the change. Hopefully, people understand that I left a really good job as well to come to this opportunity.
"If we can get some consistency and some time - hopefully people are seeing after three months that we can get it going again here, but it's still going to take some time. It's not where I want it to be yet.
"It's not just here though, this is at lots of clubs, it's worldwide. You don't get loads of time when you're in this job.
"You look down the road at Eric Ramsay. He leaves an amazing job in the USA, moves over, and then nine games later (he's sacked). People then wonder why people make decisions for themselves and their families, because it is quite a ruthless business that we're in.
"I'm here and I'd love to be here for a long, long, long time and as long as hopefully people see that we're doing a good job and giving everything, I really hope that's the case."
Edwards is likely to be the head coach to take Wolves into the Championship next season, ahead of a summer that will see a high turnover of players.
When asked how confident he is in the rebuild, Edwards added: "We can't ever give guarantees of results, that's the one thing you can't do.
"I'd be stupid to do that, really naive to do that, but I really do believe that we've got people in the right positions now to make good decisions.
"I've got a wonderful staff, people that I'm working with, brilliant expertise, knowledge, really good people and that's throughout the club, not just the people I'm working really closely with on a day-to-day basis.
"We've got people in the right positions now to make good decisions. People are going to be working with the players that are very, very good and that's a good start.
"Then there's going to need to be some really good work done in the summer, because that's going to be a key part of it.
"If we can make some good decisions, then I'm really confident that we can turn things around and make it an amazing season and then beyond as well.
"I'm confident, but I can never sit here in front of you and say it's 100 per cent, it's a guarantee. I can't do that."
