'Quite mad' - James Morrison reveals West Brom winger plan

The Baggies boss has been talking about his wide options.

James Morrison says Kareem Tunde is hungry to launch his Albion career after a “maddening” injury setback.

The 21-year-old winger has been limited to just four appearances since joining from Levante and was likely denied just his second Baggies start when he picked up a knock before last weekend’s derby defeat to Blues.

Tunde has now returned to training and is expected to be on the bench for Saturday’s visit of Blackburn.

With Mikey Johnston still working his way back to fitness, the Spaniard is the only natural winger currently available to Morrison and the boss believes he can be an asset to the team.

“It was a big blow for Karim (last week),” said Morrison. “The international break was so important and was built around him, actually.

“He felt something just before the game, so I was quite mad because I want to get him up to speed.

“I want that direction in the team of someone who can do something different.”

Tunde was substituted after just 45 minutes of his full Championship debut against Charlton last month.

Morrison continued: “The first game he played he could feel the intensity so we had been working with him to get him up to speed.

“He was looking good in training, I was really positive with him and then he just felt something so he didn’t play.

“I am just going to have to have a plan for him again and build him up. I have that in my head.

“I feel like the team needs a player like him. I’ve had a couple of conversations with him, trying to kick him into gear and what I expect of him.

“I think he will be watching and realising what he has to do to get into the team.”

Johnston, whose only action this season was in the opening day win at Rotherham before he suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury, has returned to individual work.

“He is on the grass and is stepping it up week by week,” explained Morrison.

“It is a positive sign and we just have to build him up in the right way so he is available for us in the coming weeks, maybe. I can’t put a timeline on it. But he is working well.”
