£30m defender becomes second deadline day arrival at Aston Villa
The centre-back is expected to be the club’s 10th and final buy of the summer.
Villa have completed their second deal of deadline day with defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis joining from Southampton.
Harwood-Bellis has become the club’s 10th and likely last signing of a hectic summer transfer window in a deal worth around £30million.
The 24-year-old, capped once by England, has been recruited to replace Ezri Konsa following the latter’s £55m move to Arsenal last month.
Harwood-Bellis was among several centre-backs targeted by Villa, who also looked at Club Brugge ace Joel Ordonez.
Two bids were rejected by the Saints before a deal was eventually struck over the weekend, with Harwood-Bellis in attendance at Villa Park on Monday night to watch his new team lose 1-0 to Arsenal.
His arrival follows that of winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain earlier on deadline day, pushing Villa’s total potential spend for the window beyond £260m.
But the club are still expected to record a net profit, having recouped more than £300m on sales including Morgan Rogers’ British transfer record £117m switch to Chelsea.
