Offers expected for star Wolves midfielder

Wolves are bracing themselves for offers for star midfielder Joao Gomes as interest intensifies, the Express & Star understands.

Italian champions Napoli have already enquired about the 24-year-old and Spanish side Atletico Madrid have now opened talks with Gomes' representatives about a potential move.

It is understood neither side have contacted Wolves yet, but they are showing genuine interest in signing Gomes this month or in the summer.

Agent Jorge Mendes has a close relationship with the Madrid club and it is understood he is pushing a deal for Gomes to move to Spain, but the Express & Star understands the player is keen on staying in the Premier League.

English clubs have also expressed an interest in Gomes, who is expected to leave Wolves in the next two transfer windows.

The midfielder has an affinity to Wolves after they signed him from Brazil and the player is not forcing a move this month, however he is keen to get back into the Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup and that could play a part in a move materialising this winter.

Wolves are likely to demand at least £40million for him, despite the expectation that they will be relegated to the Championship this season.
