'Not all plain sailing' - James Morrison outlines West Brom truth
The Baggies boss believes realism is required when assessing his team’s form.
James Morrison believes the best is yet to come from Albion as he warned this season “won’t all be plain sailing”.
The Baggies host Blackburn on Saturday sitting in the Championship top-six and aiming to follow up Tuesday’s morale-boosting win at Wrexham.
Victory saw Morrison’s men bounce back consecutive derby defeats to Wolves and Blues and the boss, who appeared to take a little umbrage at the suggestion his side had been in a “slump”, believes a sense of perspective is required.
He points out his team are still in transition with several summer signings still finding their feet.
Morrison said: “In the Championship there are going to be ups and downs. It can’t all be plain sailing.
“We had not really felt that (a setback), the group, for a long time.
“We need to be realistic, we have a young team which is still gelling, still finding our feet.
“We are going to have that. It is all about how we react and how we break that slump, as I heard it called.
“Hopefully Tuesday got us back a bit of rhythm, a bit of momentum.”
Blackburn, managed by former Albion boss Tony Mowbray, will arrive at The Hawthorns just two points behind the home side in the table, after winning both of their matches since the international break.
Morrison’s thoughts were echoed by midfielder Jayson Molumby, who felt the manner of Tuesday’s win, which saw the Baggies score twice late on to snatch victory, demonstrated the team’s strength of character.
“We are a very young squad, first and foremost,” he said. “We have a young manager and a lot of new faces, who have not played in the Championship before.
“To be where we are at right now is really, really positive and I hope the fans can see that.
“We have had a big change of style, with a new manager and new players from different countries, so it is going to take a while to gel.”
