New boss eager to build a 'great family' at Wolves
The club’s new head coach has been outlining his vision for the future.
Cesar Peixoto says he must first build a “great family” if Wolves are to realise their ambition of a swift Premier League return.
The new boss is keen to unite the club after being tasked with leading them in the Championship following last week’s shock sacking of Rob Edwards.
Wolves are not due to return for pre-season training until the first week of July but Peixoto plans to speak with senior players before then to outline his plans.
Talks have taken place over potential transfer targets, with Jorge Mendes expected to play a key role in the club’s recruitment.
Peixoto’s primary role will be on the training pitch but the Portuguese wants to involve everyone in the journey.
He said: “First I want to build a great family, to then build into a great team to fight to get us promoted to the Premier League.
“I think it is important we work as a unit in the club. It is not only the players who are important to me.
“It is the whole environment, all of the staff, anyone who works with us is an important key to being good along the season.
“It is a tough season and we need all of the people to help us bring the good results to Wolves.”
Peixoto, who has never previously managed outside Portugal, has returned to his homeland while he awaits the work permit which will allow him to officially begin work at Compton Park.
The 46-year-old on Tuesday delivered an emotional note of thanks to the club he is leaving, Gil Vicente, describing his 16-month spell in charge as a period of “great growth”.
Peixoto, who also finished his playing career at the club, said: “As a professional I have to take this step.
“If it was my heart, I wouldn’t. I will always be a Gil Vicente supporter cheering for you.”
Wolves made their move for Peixoto after he led Gil Vicente to a sixth-placed finish in Portugal’s top flight last season.
Several members of his backroom team are expected to follow him to Wolverhampton, though confirmation is not expected until nearer the start of pre-season.
Wolves have already made a strong start to the transfer window with the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.
Yet outgoings are inevitable. Reports in Portugal claim Toti Gomes is a target for Benfica.
