More direct more success? Why it could be time for West Brom to unleash Daryl Dike

Daryl Dike's West Brom career so far has been full of its, buts and maybes.

But now with the striker back in contention, with lengthier substitute appearances under his belt, could it be time for him to come to the party and play a massive part in Albion's push for the play-offs?

The forward, who has suffered three big injuries during his time at Albion - made the longest of his bench cameos at Bristol City on Tuesday night, and looked affective.

He had a chance to score but was denied by the home keeper Max O'Leary. But one thing is for certain, he caused problems.

He did against Sunderland, even further back against the likes of Leeds he did the same.

Now he isn't going to be able to complete a full 90 minutes, however is it time for him to be thrown in for this five game run in?

Albion's lack of goals has been a well publicised issue all season, and even bringing in one of the Championship's most potent marksman of recent times in Adam Armstrong hasn't turned the tide.

With Dike coming into the fold more and more following his recovery from his latest set back - could it be time to throw him in from the start?

There is a big argument for it and I am sure it is something that may have crossed Tony Mowbray's mind, if only very briefly.

After the frustration of Sunderland, Mowbray talked in his press conference about whether it would be better to go more direct in Albion's play.

Well, on Tuesday we did see that more. It may not have been long balls, but certainly more diagonal balls, to get Bristol City turned and to switch the play.

And it did lead to a handful of chances in the game. It wasn't your typical, lump if forward and back to front, but it did look to be more affective.

Of course, they played through the pitch as well at times and that also led to chances. But going more direct may be the way forward, and to achieve success with that, Dike may be the answer.

That doesn't mean leaving Armstrong out. Armstrong in the hole off Dike could be an answer. What other options to Albion have in there? Grady Diangana and John Swift, who have not delivered in recent matches or consistently enough this season.

The forward debate is one we have had for some time, but now push may well be coming to shove. A change looks to be required, and the big man could be the answer.

And after what he has been through, if he delivered, it would be some story.
