Matt Maher's player ratings after Aston Villa lose at Liverpool

We rate the players after Aston Villa are beaten 2-0 at Liverpool

EMI MARTINEZ

The keeper's ability with his feet has been a big factor in Villa's success but when it goes wrong, it does so spectacularly. You'd back him to bounce back.

Mistake: 5

MATTY CASH

A player full of confidence and he was only denied another goal by a superb save. Solid in defence but faded in attack during the second half.

Close: 6

EZRI KONSA

Even Konsa misplaced a pass in the second half as Villa wobbled. Otherwise this was another strong performance from their best defender.

Frustrated: 7

PAU TORRES

The pass forward ahead of the second goal wasn't great but the backing off was worse. Not as assured as in recent weeks.

Hurried: 6

LUCAS DIGNE

Endured one of his toughest nights of the season as he was overwhelmed by Salah and Bradley at times. Kept battling as best he could.

Pressed: 5

AMADOU ONANA

Made a strong start to the night but might have used the ball better. Took a big risk when he grabbed Mac Allister round the neck.

Risk: 6

BOUBACAR KAMARA

Showed an audacious bit of skill to nutmeg Wirtz in his own box. The trouble was by that point Villa were two goals down.

Skill: 6

EVANN GUESSAND

Plenty of effort but nowhere near enough quality. Threatened to go through on goal in the first half but lacked a decisive edge.

Disappointing: 5

MORGAN ROGERS

Some great touches in the first half and he was unlucky with he shot which hit the post. Showed great strength at times but connection with Watkins needs work.

Bright: 7

JOHN MCGINN

Back on the left of midfield but he struggled to make much headway. Will have been disappointed with his final ball.

Quiet: 6

OLLIE WATKINS

Another game which passed by without the striker having a clear-cut chance. No shortage of running but he looked further from his best here than ever.

Negated: 5

SUBSTITUTES

Donyell Malen 6 (for Guessand, 59), Ross Barkley 6 (for McGinn, 59), Jadon Sancho 5 (for Watkins, 74), Ian Maatsen 6 (for Digne, 75), Tyrone Mings 6 (for Torres, 75) Subs not used: Broggio, Lindelof, Bogarde, Bizot (gk).
