Mat Sadler issues message to Walsall loan trio amid lack of minutes

Walsall boss Mat Sadler insists January signings Alfie Chang, Darius Lipsiuc and Ethan Wheatley are responding "brilliantly" to not being in the squad.

Wheatley arrived on loan from Manchester United and made his debut from the bench in the 3-0 defeat at Bradford City on January 25.

The 19-year-old was then handed a pair of starts in the 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town and 2-2 draw against Salford City at Bescot but has not been involved in the squad since.

Meanwhile, Chang and Lipsiuc signed on loan from Birmingham City and Stoke City respectively on transfer deadline day but neither have been named in a match day squad as of yet.

"Brilliantly," Sadler said when asked how the trio have responded to being out of the squad.

"They'e great kids, great guys. They form a good part of our squad and an important part of January was to make sure we were really deep in our squad because we know there are going to be loads of challenges.

"All of them are pushing everyone in training and working really hard. That's what we want from them."

Wheatley appeared to be a particular coup on the loan market when he landed at Walsall from Old Trafford, with the teenager boasting four senior appearances with the Premier League giants.

And Sadler insists that Wheatley will get more chances and minutes in Walsall colours.

He continued: "What I will say about Ethan. Since he hasn't been in the squad, he trained so well and put himself in consideration to be on the pitch.

"It was difficult for him when he first came in and we shouldn't forget that. It was difficult circumstances for him with the changes to the front end and unfortunately he was part of when it completely changed.

"He will get his chances, he will get his time."
