Mat Sadler backs Walsall pair to step-up next season
Mat Sadler has backed Evan Weir to "stake his claim" at Walsall following the departure of star man Taylor Allen.

Allen departed Bescot after three years at the club to join Wycombe Wanderers in League One.
The 25-year-old made 119 appearances for the Saddlers in all competitions - registering 14 goals and 11 assists.
He was named the club's Player of the Year last term and was also included in the PFA League Two team of the year, after netting 11 goals and setting up eight more in 57 matches.
Weir, who arrived from Drogheda United in 2024, developed in Allen's shadow during his debut campaign in England.
In total, Weir totted up four assists in 22 matches for the Saddlers and Sadler is confident that he is capable of making the step-up.

"Without doubt [Weir can succeed Allen]," Sadler declared. "Evan waited patiently while Taylor showed what he was all about last season, but Evan has an incredible left foot, and it's a chance for him to stake his claim.
"I'm sure we'll recruit another one in that area to make sure there's good competition for places on that left hand side.
"We know what Evo will give and it's his second year in England now. It's very different from Ireland and we look forward to seeing the very best of Evan now."
As for Allen, Sadler is pleased to see him get his opportunity in the division above following a breakthrough 18 months with his hometown club.
The Walsall boss also described Allen as exactly the type of player that the club are looking to develop under his watch.
"In terms of Taylor, it was a standout thing to see him leave the club in terms of what he has done, the way he has grown and built his career," Sadler continued.
"That's testament to what we're trying to do at this football club. We want to give people chances who're young, hungry, athletic and willing to ride out tough times.

"Taylor has been through every single tough time you can imagine. Not just on the pitch but lots off the pitch as well.
"There's nobody I'm happier to see progress his career than Taylor. Like all of the guys who've moved forward and moved on. They go with my best wishes."
Sadler has also set a similar challenge for Brandon Comley in the wake of Ryan Stirk's exit to League Two rivals Chesterfield.
Comley missed the start of last season due to a broken leg and fractured his cheekbone in November last year.

He featured just 22 times in all competitions, but Sadler feels he can help fill the void next season.
"Brandon showed what he is all about, especially during the season before," he added.
"He cleared up on some of the awards [in 2023-24] and then was unfortunate with injury at times last season.
"The timing of those were rubbish for him and it opened the door for Stirky to take his chance. We know we've got a fantastic player in Brandon and it's brilliant to have him."
