"Ludicrous mistakes" - Rob Edwards left frustrated after Wolves' latest defeat
Rob Edwards has been left frustrated at some 'ludicrous mistakes' as Wolves fell to defeat at home to Chelsea.
Matt Doherty and Yerson Mosquera both made poor errors to foul Joao Pedro and gift the Londoners two first half penalties, which Cole Palmer dispatched before sealing his hat-trick from open play before half-time.
Edwards, concerned at the body language of his players in a difficult opening 45 minutes, was left disappointed with the spot-kicks that ultimately led to the defeat.
"My hands were feeling the effects after thumping a door in a bit of anger," the head coach said.
"We did start really positively and it was a real promising start, and then a couple of really ludicrous mistakes against a top team of brilliant players. It's going to be a really difficult day for us then.
"At 2-0 down, it felt with the energy, and looking at the lads on the pitch, it looked a little bit like when we first came in. It looked a bit then disjointed for a period, they got their tails up and got a third.
"Then it was about stopping the bleeding. I thought the players reacted very, very well once we were able to get them in at half-time and organise things.
"The challenge was then to win the half, sticking to the things that we wanted them to do on the tactics board, but also then showing some passion, and make sure we fight, and we did that.
"It wasn't a team that went under in the end, because if it had it would have been embarrassing today."
In a new-look back four, Wolves were opened up too easily at Molineux before the head coach changed to a back five once Hwang Hee-chan came off with a knock.
Wolves were improved in the second half in a more comfortable system.
When asked for his reasoning on making the formation change, Edwards said: "Lately we've created some chances but we haven't scored as much as we'd like," Edwards said.
"We wanted to be really positive, we wanted to be brave and press higher and then we wanted to try and have more of an attacking threat on the pitch.
"Removing a defender and then putting a more attacking player on, in it's simplest form, was the thinking. Obviously there's more to it than that, but that was the idea.
"It started well but after giving away two penalties, then it became really challenging.
"I don't think was a tactical thing then, I think it was then a mental thing for a period of time. One or two just felt the heat and felt the pressure and it looked a little bit messy for a period of time, because we caused ourselves some problems."
The head coach also confirmed that Angel Gomes' withdrawal was due to cramp, while he is hopeful Andre will be back for the midweek clash against Nottingham Forest after missing the Chelsea game.
He said: "We gave him (Andre) until this morning, but at 10 o'clock he was still feeling pain in his calf.
"We're hopeful for Wednesday. We'll see how he recovers for that.
"Even yesterday when I was speaking to you guys, I was still really hopeful with him, to be honest."
On Hwang's knock, he added: "I'll know a bit more tomorrow, I'll see. I'm not too sure on the details of that at the moment."
