Liam Keen comment: Which Wolves players could force their way into the team?

Following Wolves' Carabao Cup win over Everton, head coach Vitor Pereira has been left with plenty of decisions to ponder.

Pereira made nine changes - alongside a formation switch - as Wolves earned a place in the fourth round of the competition.

They now go into Saturday's trip to Spurs needing to turn around their Premier League form and the improved performance against the Toffees could see some players force their way into Pereira's thinking.

Sam Johnstone

The goalkeeper was given an opportunity against Newcastle due to Jose Sa's illness and despite the result, he did relatively well.

As expected, Sa came back into the team against Leeds but could have done better with all three of their goals, leading to many questions over his position in the side.

Johnstone came in for the cup match, as he did in the last round against West Ham, and the Englishman did well on Tuesday night.

He was composed on the ball with some strong distribution, he commanded his area well and was strong from crosses. One particularly good save saw him deny a Michael Keane header.

Sa has always been a player that has split opinion and his occasionally erratic behaviour could see him pull off a stunning save in one moment, followed by a catastrophic error the next.

Johnstone may be the calming influence that Wolves need and his last two appearances have put him in the conversation to take the number one shirt.

It would be a huge decision from Pereira, however, who has stuck by Sa ever since arriving at the club.

Matt Doherty

Doherty was left out of the squad altogether against Leeds, due to the size of Wolves' squad and the lack of injuries.

He came straight back in to face Everton, playing right-back in a back four, and proved why he is still important to this team.

Doherty is experienced, knows Wolves and the Premier League like the back of his hand, and in a time when the club is struggling at the wrong end of the table, his leadership and composure will be essential.

When players such as Emmanuel Agbadou and Yerson Mosquera are making mistakes and playing a part in Wolves losing games, it is only right to reward a player in Doherty with game time.

As part of the leadership group, it was a shock to see Doherty miss out against Leeds anyway, but he surely cannot be overlooked after an impressive performance against Everton.

Santi Bueno

Pereira may not take both Agbadou and Mosquera out and the choices on his centre-backs are difficult to predict, but Bueno has also put himself in the frame.

The Uruguayan had some good performances earlier in the season but was quickly dropped again.

His Wolves career has largely consisted of mixed displays and a difficulty with adapting to the physicality of the Premier League, but Bueno has seemingly found an answer to that problem.

The defender now looks far more comfortable with the rigours of the top flight and did enough to battle away against Everton to put himself in the conversation for a starting place at Spurs.

Pereira's main concern may be around changing too many things too quickly, but he can only stand by certain out-of-form players for so long.

Andre

It is remarkable that a player of Andre's quality is even on this list, but Pereira has dropped the midfielder twice already this season and he faces a challenge to get back into the team.

The good news is that he did himself plenty of favours with his performance against Everton.

Andre was arguably the best player on the pitch and was a major reason for Wolves' win.

The Brazilian covered every blade of grass, made countless tackles and kept Wolves ticking in the first half.

In the second half, the number of interceptions and blocks he made when Everton were pushing for an equaliser was remarkable and he helped Wolves retain their lead and ultimately win the game.

He also had a 100 per cent pass accuracy during the game, completing all 50 of them.

If Pereira's purpose for dropping him against Bournemouth and Leeds so far this season was to get a reaction out of him, then Andre finally delivered it.

As a result, there is surely no way he does not play against Spurs.
