Lewis Cox Austria tour diary with West Brom - day two
Our first full day in Burgenland - and the place is growing on me.

I signed off diary entry number one by hoping schnitzel was on the menu for our first evening meal and I'm very happy to report it was - and it was fantastic.
I was unsure about chicken or pork and went with the former. Top notch - and so was the service and hospitality from Lena at 'Arkadenheuriger', a small, quirky and rather charming local set-up with a type of ballroom dancing going on while we ate. All rather unusual, but options were pretty limited at 9pm on a Tuesday night in Bad Tatzmannsdorf!
My media colleague's choice was a pulled pork langos - a type of Hungarian flatbread, as we're only about 15 miles from the border - this one looked similar to a calzone and is a dish I would recommend.
It was a pretty lively start to Wednesday morning. Sleeping in was never going to be an issue - the curtains don't fully cross the balcony window at my hotel which, by the way, has features which resemble a real-life doll's house in a horror film, but is otherwise great.
I wolfed down breakfast as I had to film a video with Jonny Drury back home and be at the Baggies' HQ by 10.30am for a chance to watch the first of two training sessions.
The morning session was absolutely fascinating. I've had the chance to watch Albion training before, both at St George's Park in Burton and the club's training home in Walsall, but this was such a good insight into how new head coach Ryan Mason ticks.

As you can read in my 'inside training' piece, Mason's authority and clarity stood out most. His messaging "tempo, quick, wide" was clear as day.
There were some funny moments, Jayson Molumby scored the acrobatic goal of his life but was left unhappy by a brave offside call. Jed Wallace and Karlan Grant, among others, showed their competitive sides.
We got to interview Tony Strudwick, Albion's director of medical, formerly of Manchester United. His perspective was a unique one. Keep an eye out for his words, and those of goalkeeper Josh Griffiths, later in the week.

Another rather unusual part of the day was my lunch selection. I enquired about an odd-looking pastry and was told by two friendly locals that its filling was 'opium' as they searched for the English equivalent. Not to be deterred, I ordered it anyway, what could go wrong? We then all figured out they had meant poppy seed!
As I write this, with my balcony door open, there is the sound of a band playing somewhere in the near distance. It surprises me because there doesn't seem enough people in the town to form a local band. Bad Tatzmannsdorf very much seems to exist for its plush spa and huge corporate venue. Though the church clock bells do chime every hour.
But Wednesday has been great and given us a real insight. Also, the weather improved!
We have less time around the squad on Thursday, but there is still at least one interview lined up. There will be plenty of words and a podcast coming your way too, so stay tuned.
