John McGinn issues Aston Villa warning ahead of Wolves clash
John McGinn has warned Villa they must be ready for a battle against Wolves in Sunday’s derby.
Villa head into the match as huge favourites against the rock bottom visitors who have not won in the Premier League this season.
But McGinn knows from experience how tough matches against Wolves can be.
The Black Country club were also winless when they played at Villa Park last season but took the lead with Villa only overpowering them to win 3-1 in the closing stages.
McGinn said: “They always give us a good game.
“They’ve got talented players, a good young manager who we know, Rob Edwards, and they’ll be right up for it.
“Derbies are always exciting and tasty, so we know they’ll be at it.”
Villa are targeting a seventh win in eight Premier League matches which would see them reclaim their place in the top four.
McGinn, the club’s longest-serving player, believes the squad at Unai Emery’s disposal has never been stronger.
He said: “We’ve got two players for every position. That’s what the manager has wanted to build and I think he’s got that.
“It’s a question of keeping the momentum going. We are doing really well at the minute.
“Obviously, there was a little blip against Liverpool but we are climbing the table, and we need to keep that going. We need to keep racking up the wins in the Premier League.
“We’ve come off the back of a tough run of games with a great number of points.
“But we’re now going into an equally tough run of games and we need to maintain the same focus.
“There will be challenges to come. You cannot take your foot off the gas. The manager won’t let it happen.”
