"It was a perfect day" - Wolves goalscorer on his return from injury

Rodrigo Gomes has hailed his 'perfect' return from injury as he scored in Wolves' 6-1 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town.

The 22-year-old has been sidelined since the end of October with a groin injury that required surgery, but he made a triumphant return off the bench to score Wolves' fifth goal at Molineux on Saturday.

Gomes admits he found the injury difficult to deal with, but he is now relishing being back on the pitch and making an impact in a Wolves shirt.

"It was a perfect day, a perfect return," he said.

"It was a difficult moment for me, not playing, not doing what I love to do, which is playing.

"I had an injury, a surgery, but everything went perfect. The treatment staff did an amazing job with me.

"I'm very proud of the first game and the goal. I'm very, very happy and I need to keep going.

"I feel good. I did a lot of work, a lot of running.

"It was very good. Like I said, an amazing job from the staff. That's why I'm like this.

"I'm ready to play, I'm sharp. We did a very good job."

Gomes was in the team and performing well at the time of his injury in late October and he is now ready to make up for lost time.

He added: "It was a very difficult moment because before the injury, I was playing and I was feeling very good. I was confident.

"Of course, the team was not achieving the results, but individually I was feeling very good.

"Injuries are always bad, but I think now I'm better. Now I'm without pain and I'm feeling very good.

"I'll do everything to not get injured again because I love to play.

"I love to be here and I love to score and win games."

The Portuguese wing-back is known at Wolves for his positive attitude, as he goes about life with a smile on his face.

During his mixed zone interview with the Express & Star Tolu Arokodare and Andre both stopped to comment on Gomes' constant smile, and when asked why he is always so happy, Gomes said: "I love what I do.

"I'm living a dream. Since I joined Wolves, I'm living a dream. I always dream to play in the best league in the world.

"I need to be happy every day because, I'm living a dream. I need to enjoy it. I need to give everything.

"That's why I'm always smiling."

He added: "We are in a good moment.

"Four games unbeaten, a very good moment and I think we deserve that.

"We deserve the way we practice every day, the way we work every day.

"Now we need to work even more to keep this momentum."
