Reports had also suggested the former England and Manchester United midfielder was due to be sacked as part of a cost-cutting exercise, after being handed a five-match touchline ban following a charge of improper conduct by the FA.

John Gorman has been already been touted as his replacement.

It is not certain whether Ince's assistant, former Wolves midfielder Alex Rae, will remain at Stadium MK.

Ince, who was re-appointed by Dons last July, was charged following an incident in the 2-2 draw with Gillingham last month and has also been fined £5,000.

The 43-year-old was sent to the stands at Priestfield for contesting a decision from referee Phil Crossley after Gillingham's equaliser.

The ban means Ince will miss tomorrow's clash with Wycombe as well as the season's remaining fixtures against Leeds, Brighton and Walsall.

Fans had become disillusioned with the robust style of play under the manager and a failure to mount a play-off push.
