Impact of Villa Park rebuild revealed as club defend latest price hike

The renovation of the North Stand has reduced capacity for next season.

Villa supporters face a fight to secure Premier League tickets this season with fewer than 4,000 available for each home fixture.

The closure of the North Stand for the entire 2026-27 campaign has cut the stadium’s capacity to around 37,000 and had a knock-on effect on the number of matchday tickets for sale.

Villa expect there to be an average of 3,600 available for each league fixture and in discussions with the club’s fan advisory board (FAB), admitted reduced supply was the primary reason for rejecting pleas for a price freeze and instead increasing costs for a fifth straight year.

The club currently have around 30,000 season ticket holders and must provide 3,000 tickets for visiting supporters.

Villa opted to press the accelerator on plans to redevelop the North Stand and increase the stadium’s capacity beyond 50,000 in time for the 2027-28 season.

But the closure of the entire stand, effectively making Villa Park a three-sided ground, has resulted in some short-term pain.

Season ticket holders in the North Stand were given the chance to move to other areas of the ground at no extra cost, while the club has committed to a price freeze for the 2027-28 campaign when the new stand is open and ticket availability increased.

Villa have faced regular criticism for their pricing strategy over recent years, with the price of the cheapest season ticket rising by 90 per cent since 2022.

Supporters who wish to attend Champions League matches next season face the prospect of paying up to £99 for a ticket.

In meetings with the FAB, the club claimed its season ticket pricing was “fair when compared to the wider Premier League” and the “sporting performance” of Unai Emery’s team over the past season.
