"I wouldn't say that" - Rob Edwards gives verdict on quality in Wolves squad following defeat

Rob Edwards says he saw improvements in his Wolves players but there is still a way to go following the defeat to Crystal Palace.

Second half goals from Daniel Munoz and Yeremy Pino condemned Wolves to 10 Premier League defeats in 12 matches, in Edwards' first match since taking over from sacked boss Vitor Pereira.

Pino's goal was a tremendous effort from distance, following a Hwang Hee-chan mistake in losing possession, and when asked if that strike showed the game-changing quality Wolves are lacking, Edwards defended his players but offered constructive criticism on the way forward.

"I wouldn't say that because I think we've got players that can produce the big moments," he said.

"I know we've lost the game and everyone will be flattened a little bit by that, but you're right, I've been here for five or six days and we've lost a game.

"Obviously I haven't got a magic wand, but what I have seen today is we did win more duels, we did run with more intensity and sprint more and I've got that now. That's a fact, we have done that.

"So there's some improvements there, but we haven't got the result then to back that up. If we try and continue to work on it, we can do more, we can work harder, we can do the basics better.

"The turnover for the second goal was frustrating, I know it's a brilliant finish from them.

"There's things that we can tidy up on, but there was an effort there.

"The boys did keep going, but the Premier League is ruthless and we got punished with a couple of the moments that they produced.

"That's probably why they are where they are, and why we are where we are."

Wolves are now eight points adrift of 19th and nine points away from safety, as they face a monumental task to have any hope of surviving this season.

"The result was disappointing," Edwards added.

"I think the result will maybe cloud or takes some people's emotions in a certain way. I've got to try and take some emotion out of it and try and look at it with a bit of clarity.

"I thought they were better first half, but in general we defended the box pretty well, but had one big moment that we didn't take.

"The second half actually we were stronger, but then got punished with those moments. That is probably the reason why we're here, why I'm sat here talking to you as well now.

"There wasn't loads in the game. We created three big chances. Possession is close and all of that sort of stuff, but in the end they've put the ball in the back of the net, the big moments.

"The first goal was always going to be big and I think that's what we've been crying out for all season and we didn't get it."
