"I need everyone to see that" - Rob Edwards backs Wolves forward amid fan criticism

Rob Edwards has urged Wolves fans to get behind his players after Hwang Hee-chan came in for more criticism in the defeat to Bournemouth.

The South Korean forward, who has had a strained relationship with fans of late, was given another start and sarcastically cheered by the home fans when his second half substitution was announced at Molineux.

Edwards, who admitted Hwang expressed his desire to stay at Wolves in the winter transfer window, has backed the 'super committed' attacker.

"It puts me in a difficult position, obviously, I want everyone to support the lads," Edwards said when asked about the sarcastic cheering.

"Channy is super committed, I need people to understand that.

"I need to be careful how I say it, but he wants to stay. Right in this window, right here, right now, he wants to stay and fight and people need to really appreciate that.

"He had a couple of loose moments in the first half, a couple of one-touch passes that he gave away was trying to do the right thing.

"But his work rate, his commitment is honestly right up there. I need everyone to see that and understand that as well.

"But yes, sometimes there's opinions on people and everyone's going to have opinions and that's fine, but he's just someone I know that he's working incredibly hard for the club."

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Gomes made his first start since late October when he lined up against Bournemouth at the weekend.

The 22-year-old endured a lay off after having surgery on a groin injury, but in his recent substitution appearances after returning, he has impressed at right-wing-back.

R.Gomes put in a threatening and energetic display against the Cherries and Edwards has also praised his versatility, as he fights to keep his place in the starting XI over summer signing Jackson Tchatchoua.

"He certainly is (a livewire), a couple of really dangerous balls, early crosses that he put in," the head coach said.

"Loads of energy an he's only going to get better and better now with the minutes.

"The fact that we can put him in different positions, whether we play him as a wing-back, an eight or someone on the top line, he gives us lots of flexibility to be able to do that. So it was good for him to get 60-odd minutes."
