Keith Aston tees up victory as historic cup returns

Members of South Staffordshire Golf Club took to the fairways to compete for an historic trophy while raising funds for New Cross Hospital.

Players swung into action last weekend in a bid to win The Wolverhampton and Staffordshire General Hospital Cup.

Back in 1922, the trophy was donated to the club with members going on to hold a competition to win it each year – the proceeds from which were given to the Wolverhampton Royal Hospital.

But following the coronavirus pandemic, the club relaunched the competition. And it was Keith Aston who won the trophy, posting a score of 44 in the stableford event.

“The competition went fantastically well and we raised £668 from entry fees and donations,” said in-house pro and former Ryder Cup star Peter Baker.

“It was really nice to be able to give something back to NHS staff who have worked so hard during this pandemic. What a great job they have done and continue to do.”
