George Bennett's Walsall player ratings as one gets 9/10 in their triumph at Newport

George Bennett gives his player ratings from Walsall's 4-2 win against Newport County at Rodney Parade in League Two.

MYLES ROBERTS

Powerless to prevent both goals, but was caught in possession early in the second half, although Newport failed to punish him.

OK: 6

RICO BROWNE

Had a challenging first half, but was much more solid after the break and opened his goal scoring account for Walsall.

Grew: 7

ADEN FLINT

Dominant in the air and a presence in the box for set pieces, always keeping his marker occupied to create space for others.

Presence: 7

EVAN WEIR

Played a key role in the build-up to three of the goals, setting up Rico Browne for the fourth with an excellent free-kick delivery.

Threat: 7

RYAN FINNIGAN

Recalled and stole the show with his first two league goals for the club. Never shirked a challenge and very elegant on the ball.

Star man: 9

CONNOR BARRETT

Had a quiet afternoon by his own high standards, but defended well overall. Dragged one of his few openings wide.

Quiet: 6

COURTNEY CLARKE

Improving with every start. Still has a tendency to complicate things at times, but he is beginning to show more maturity as a player.

Maturing: 7

CHARLIE LAKIN

Solid in the sitting midfield role barring a couple of sloppy moments. Hit the post prior to Daniel Kanu's leveller.

Solid: 7

VINCENT HARPER

Made the joint-most defensive contributions for Walsall (nine) - including a key early intervention to prevent Newport from breaking in the first 60 seconds.

Alert: 7

AARON PRESSLEY

Has a habit of missing big opportunities and spurned a gilt-edged chance inside the first 30 seconds. Complimented Kanu well though and worked hard in the press.

Mixed: 6

DANIEL KANU

A constant threat for the first hour. Took his season tally to six with a tidy finish and played a key role in the Saddlers' second.

Key: 8

Subs: Jamille Matt (for Pressley, 70) 6; Priestley Farquharson (for Browne, 77); Lewis Warrington (for Finnigan, 78); Albert Adomah (for Kanu, 78); Jid Okeke (for Weir, 90 +2)

Not used: Hornby, Richards.
