The 20-year-old Braga starlet is set to head to Wolverhampton early next week to complete a medical and sign a five-year contract, with the option of a further year on top of that.

Multiple clubs have been tracking Gomes, who spent last season on loan at Estoril where he has caught the eye.

Playing as either a winger or right-wing-back, Gomes notched nine goals and eight assists across 36 games in all competitions.

He can also play on either flank and is known for his pace and skill, which has excited supporters in Portugal all season.

As a result, the Portugal under-21 international has attracted attention from several European clubs, with Wolves keen admirers.

Atletico Madrid, Bournemouth and other clubs in Germany had also been alerted to his talent – but it is the Molineux men now in pole position to secure a deal worth around £12.7million.

Gomes – whose Braga contract currently runs until the summer of 2026 – has represented Portugal at every age group from under-16 up to under-21.

Should Wolves complete the deal, Gomes would add much-needed depth to the attacking wide areas and is expected to fit seamlessly into Gary O’Neil’s system.

He also fits the bill as an exciting young player that could develop at Wolves, both as a footballer and a financial asset.
