Wolves wide man determined to 'come back stronger' in 2026/27
Wolves were relegated to the second tier last season.
Rodrigo Gomes is determined to ‘come back stronger’ next season after a ‘difficult’ campaign with relegated Wolves.
The versatile wide player was in and out of the team all season but still ended up as Wolves’ joint top goalscorer on three, with Tolu Arokodare, Mateus Mane and Santi Bueno.
Gomes was in the starting XI for Wolves’ final two matches and admits he enjoyed being back in the fray, but that every player needs a rest to recover from the challenging season.
He said: “I enjoy playing, every performance. I played these last two games, starting, it is a few more minutes and I am feeling very good.
“It’s been a difficult season so I need a break to rest, clear my head and come back next season stronger.
“Now after the games it is to rest, enjoy the summer, (have) a good diet and come back as strong as possible in pre-season to do an amazing season.”
The 22-year-old suffered a nasty groin injury in late October which needed surgery, before he finally made his return to the pitch in the FA Cup win over Shrewsbury on January 10.
Gomes came off the bench to score in the 6-1 win and stayed around the team until the end of the season - scoring in both back-to-back wins over Villa and Liverpool in the Premier League.
But the wide player admits it was a tough campaign for Wolves and him personally, as they now prepare for life in the Championship.
“Personally it has been difficult because I had the big injury too,” he added.
“I spent two and a half months without playing, it was very difficult for me.
“The collective was difficult too because we got relegated, finished bottom.
“It has been difficult but we need to look at this season and learn, and try to improve for next season.
“I will do everything to help the club get back to the Premier League. They deserve to be in the Premier League.”
