Wolves transfer latest as boss makes statement on goalkeepers and defenders

The latest Wolves transfer news.

Cesar Peixoto insists he does not need to dip into the transfer market to replace Wolves’ injured stars.

The club have been rocked by injuries to Kieran Trippier and Yerson Mosquera, who could both miss up to eight games as they recover from frustrating knocks.

But the head coach is adamant Wolves will not panic to replace them in the transfer window.

When asked if he needs more signings due to their injuries, Peixoto said: “No, we have the players.

“We have five centre-backs, we have three right-backs, so we don't need to go to the market to change the situation or to manage that situation.

“We have to get Kieran and Yerson back as soon as possible on the pitch to help us, but we have quality in the team to play in a good way and be competitive in the games.”

When asked if that means one of both of Santi Bueno and Ladislav Krejci will stay, Peixoto added: “At the moment they stay as players of the club.

“They will train with us. Krejci needs more time to be fit enough to play, but Santi is in a better position to play.

“I think they’re two great players for us and I don't know what's going to happen until we close the window of the market.

“But they’re players with a lot of quality who give us the capacity to not go to the market and stay with these players to solve this problem.”

The head coach also revealed that Hugo Bueno will play against Preston after a minor groin injury kept him out of the Blackburn game.

Wolves were preparing to offload one of either H.Bueno or David Moller Wolfe with both players keen to play regularly, but Peixoto says he wants to keep them both.

“I think it's important the team has two players per position to fight each other, to stay competitive during the week, to stay more competitive in the games,” he said.

“The Championship has a lot of games, tough games. All the games are tough and we need solutions.

“We need competitiveness inside of the team to stay in the right moment to play against the opposing teams.

“I think for me it's good to have these two players to fight each other for this position. If you ask me if I want them to stay with Wolves, then I want them to stay with Wolves.”

Wolves are also in the market for another goalkeeper following Dan Bentley’s departure, although getting another number one depends on the futures of both Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone.

On the goalkeeper situation, Peixoto said: “We want quality in the team. We try to find a solution with quality to improve that position.

“I don't know what's going to happen with Sa or Sam until they close the market. We try to find a good solution for us, a quality solution.

“We don't want to bring players just to be one more number, we want to bring players to improve the team.

“Goalkeepers, centre-backs, strikers, wingers. I want players to improve the level of the team.

“It's my role in these kinds of things. We're going to try to find someone who's going to improve this position.”
