Wolves-supporting butcher creates Nuno sausages

Another ‘Nuno Banger’ – not a stunning Wolves performance, but a new sausage created to celebrate the team’s success.

The Nuno Banger is the work of Stuart Taylor, 43, a butcher in Penn who believes the meaty treat is the ideal way to mark the impact of the Portuguese, who has steered Wolves to their first New Wembley cup appearance.

The sausage is available to buy at Penn Road Butchers, Wolverhampton and is made in a Portuguese style.

Mr Taylor, owner of the butchers, said: “The Nuno Banger is made with garlic and paprika, a classic Portuguese style. There are two varieties available, a healthy chicken option and a more traditional pork version.”

The sausages have been on sale for a couple of weeks and Mr Taylor hopes they will take off in popularity as the team’s fortunes improve.

He added: “I’ve been a Wolves fan all my life and it made sense with the success we’re having. Nuno is a huge part of that and it’s great to celebrate our run to the semi-final.

“Recently I’ve been making some healthy recipes for Weight Watchers. I’ve made lots of chicken sausages and explored different flavours.

“This created the inspiration for the Nuno Banger; it’s one of a number of new sausage recipes I’ve been making of late.”

Mr Taylor explained that he hasn’t produced a huge number of the sausages, but the ones he has produced have gone down very well.

“I’ve had some great feedback. Everyone loves them. It’s a really different, tasty recipe with lots of flavour.

“One man told me they were so tasty that Nuno didn’t do them justice, but then again he wasn’t much of a football fan,” Mr Taylor said.

The sausages have been on sale for £8.75 per kilo, but the butchers is running a promotion for the semi-final, so the sausages will be available for £1 until the game on Sunday.
