Wolves skipper urges side to make mentality change

Mario Lemina has urged his Wolves side to ‘change this losing mentality’ and create their own luck after defeat to Newcastle.

The skipper opened the scoring for Wolves but his side were pegged back with two late second half strikes.

The first, from Fabian Schar, took a fortuitous deflection off Craig Dawson and Lemina has bemoaned Wolves’ luck, but also insists they must work hard to turn their fortunes around.

“I don’t know what to say, we had the chance to score goals and we didn’t,” Lemina said.

“They scored from far out, they had luck. The first one has been flicked by our defender and the game changed.

“I’m really unhappy. We have to get back to work, be committed to what we want to do and be resilient.

“Sometimes the game can change like that, they had the luck in the second half and we didn’t.

“We had chances to score and we didn’t. We need to change this losing mentality and get back to work to win games.

“We fought a lot and it’s not about the performance of the players, but luck, and we didn’t have it.

“But we need to create more chances to have luck. We’re going to get back to work and work hard.”

Jorgen Strand Larsen, who provided the assist for Lemina’s opener, also felt Wolves were hard done by at Molineux.

“We’re really disappointed and we feel unlucky because we were the better team throughout the game,” he said.

“We had a tough start and knew it would be an intense game, but as soon as it settled we took control and created some chances.

“When you’re 1-0 up and really want to win you’re always going to get pressured and of course a goal comes like that.

“In the dressing room we’re really disappointed because we feel we were the better team, but the games we’ll win will come, for sure.

“But right now, it’s a tough moment.

“They had some scary opportunities right before the goal which we cleared and Yerson and Dawson were fantastic. We were really unlucky to concede a goal like that, it shouldn’t happen but that’s football and we have to work on that.

“Overall, we should be happy with what we did except the two goals, and we have to learn from them.

“The second one is world class from Harvey Barnes and it’s difficult for us to take because we really wanted that win and we deserved it.”

The goal Wolves did score came from a fantastic team move, as one of the positives Larsen can take from the loss.

“I’m settling in well and they understand me better with every game,” the summer signing added. “In this game I was more vital in the air, winning more duels than before, but I can run in the space and be in the box.

“It takes some time for my team-mates to understand me. We’ve only played four Premier League games together.

“We’re on the right track, but we need to start winning games.

“I don’t really care how we win and it will come. We have a really tough schedule coming and we’ll keep going.

“We have a really good team and it will come.”
